Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Fabien Lovett at Round 7, Pick 25 is 106 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Barton. They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Graham Barton at pick 56 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Caelen Carson still on the board at the 87th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Braelon Allen in the 124th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Malik Washington at slot 174. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Zion Nelson at No. 212 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They talked themselves into Fabien Lovett at pick 245, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
