The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Eyabi Okie-Anoma at pick No. 244 regardless, 40 picks early.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Chambers at that price is a win they earned.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Braden Fiske at the 56th pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Benson. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A conviction pick on Ainias Smith at No. 128 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Hunter Nourzad, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 174 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steele Chambers is a better player than pick No. 216 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Rasheen Ali. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Eyabi Okie-Anoma at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. A minor itch, scratched.
