The Cowboys bet big and early on Jowon Briggs, 53 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
However the rest shakes out, Burton at that price is a win they earned. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 32 they get protection for the quarterback, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Payton Wilson at Round 2, Pick 24 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jermaine Burton in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A conviction pick on Braelon Allen at pick 95 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Andru Phillips at the 128th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Beau Brade in No. 132 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Ty'Ron Hopper at slot 174 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jowon Briggs in pick 216 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at pick No. 233 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Dylan McMahon at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
