The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Barrett Carter, the 170th pick, roughly 88 picks past where he belonged.
Every board in the league had Smith lower, and that gap is the story. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In No. 19 they get a lockdown presence outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Somehow Kaleb Johnson was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 12, and they pounced on premier running back value. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Barrett Carter at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Nicholas Singleton all the way to the 187th overall pick, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
DJ Campbell at slot 209 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tim Smith at pick 247 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
