· 3 steals
· 6 reaches
There is reaching, and then there is Jasheen Davis at the 209th pick. The Cowboys jumped the board by 92 and dared it to prove them wrong. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
However the rest shakes out, Johnson at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A slide stopped in pick No. 33, with Omarion Hampton worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Jalon Walker in slot 44 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A running back of that caliber at the 67th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Jayden Higgins in Round 3, Pick 12; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
DeMonte Capehart in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid a round early for JJ Pegues in the 168th pick, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nazir Stackhouse in slot 170 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid up for Addison West at No. 171 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ricardo Hallman in the 187th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jasheen Davis in the 209th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Trey Wedig at Round 7, Pick 31 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
