The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jalen McMillan fell into Round 4, Pick 24.
Capehart has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They read the board right and Tyler Guyton was the payoff at slot 56. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at pick 87. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jalen McMillan at the 124th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Edefuan Ulofoshio in the 174th pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Michael Barrett in No. 212 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They talked themselves into DeMonte Capehart at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
