There is reaching, and then there is Hayden Conner at pick 150. The Cowboys jumped the board by 59 and dared it to prove them wrong. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th pick they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Alfred Collins, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
Nick Emmanwori in pick 76 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They let Quinshon Judkins come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 16. The roster fit checks out.
Value said wait; Hayden Conner in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quarterback of that caliber at slot 170 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Rylie Mills in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in No. 174 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
