Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Isaiah Williams got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at No. 231. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Every board in the league had Logue lower, and that gap is the story. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 56th pick, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good price on Khyree Jackson in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Roger Rosengarten at the 173rd pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
M.J. Devonshire in Round 6, Pick 38 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Isaiah Williams was still sitting there in the 231st overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Zion Logue at slot 242 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
