The Cowboys ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Guyton. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting Estime proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Brian Thomas Jr. in Round 2, Pick 1 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Tyler Guyton higher than the 56th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nothing to complain about; Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Audric Estime at No. 87 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jarrian Jones in pick 124. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylan Ford at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Omar Speights in pick No. 212. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They read the board right and Dylan McMahon was the payoff at the 245th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
