You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Arnold. If Taylor III pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick-by-Pick
Terrion Arnold in the Round 2 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kiran Amegadjie at pick No. 56 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Junior Colson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Leonard Taylor III in Round 3, Pick 24 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value said wait; Javion Cohen in the 126th overall pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at No. 145, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Jefferson in the 174th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kenny Logan Jr. in slot 189 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Austin Stogner at pick 201 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Daequan Hardy went about where he belonged in No. 212. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Donovan Jennings at the 220th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy little value on Demani Richardson in Round 7, Pick 25, a step better than break-even. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
