Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. De'Corian Clark, the No. 217 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 245th overall pick.
The Eguakun pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a building block for the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nice patience on Byron Murphy II, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Junior Colson in pick 87, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
James Williams at the 124th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylin Simpson at pick No. 174 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, Kingsley Eguakun in No. 212 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
De'Corian Clark at slot 245 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
