The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 21 spots for Matthew Jones, and value like that does not grow back. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jermaine Burton at the 56th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Christian Mahogany in No. 87 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on James Williams at Round 4, Pick 24, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Julian Pearl went about where he belonged in slot 174. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Value said wait; Matthew Jones in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cody Simon well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
