Call it larceny. Brashard Smith sat on the board until the Round 6 slot, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
If Morris pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
Jalon Walker at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Dylan Sampson all the way to No. 76, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 148 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Joshua Gray went about where he belonged in the 168th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Antwane Wells Jr. in Round 5, Pick 33 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Shemar Turner at the 173rd overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Connor Colby in slot 186 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steal is underselling it; Brashard Smith at the 209th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Micah Morris at Round 7, Pick 32 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
