Boards are made to be trusted, and the Cowboys shredded theirs for Jaylan Ford. He came off 31 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Greenfield.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a blindside protector at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reach for Christian Haynes in the 56th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Trey Benson at Round 3, Pick 24 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Jaylan Ford in No. 174 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Magee. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Garret Greenfield at slot 233 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Bub Means in the 244th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
