Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cardinals spent Round 5, Pick 14 on Shawn Murphy, a name the board had a full 369 spots lower. The final tally is a middling C-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
They reached a country mile for Jonah Savaiinaea at pick 17, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jacobe Covington at pick No. 49 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Giles Jackson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A big swing on Howard Cross III at the 118th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Shawn Murphy in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
