You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cardinals did exactly that with Aireontae Ersery in the 22nd overall pick. It nets out a thoroughly average C.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
If Aireontae Ersery and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a building block for the line, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A conviction pick on Jay Higgins at the 53rd pick that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had Ashton Gillotte higher than pick No. 84, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jabbar Muhammad at Round 4, Pick 22 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It adds depth where they could use a little.
