It is the swing that defines the weekend: Kingsley Eguakun in pick 229, a good 53 spots before the room expected him. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. However the rest shakes out, Sweat at that price is a win they earned. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Brian Thomas Jr. at pick No. 34. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Roman Wilson at the 44th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
T'Vondre Sweat at the 68th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Mahogany at No. 93, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Roger Rosengarten in the Round 4 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
Justin Eboigbe in pick 148 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sione Vaki in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kingsley Eguakun. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
