You build a draft on nights like this. Jake Majors had no business being available in No. 168, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They are betting Conner proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They robbed the room for Omarion Hampton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Jihaad Campbell was still sitting there in pick No. 76, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Hayden Conner at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on DeMonte Capehart in the 148th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cam Skattebo at Round 5, Pick 13 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Majors reach the 168th pick and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Lathan Ransom in slot 170 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 173 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Miles Frazier at pick 186 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Raheim Sanders at No. 209 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Terrance Ferguson at the 248th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
