The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The Guyton pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
In the 25th pick they get a building block for the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Rome Odunze in slot 36, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Jordan Morgan was still sitting there in the 68th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tyler Guyton reach pick No. 104 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Blake Fisher still on the board at the Round 5 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Michael Barrett at pick 182 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Reuben Fatheree II in Round 7, Pick 5 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
