Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Bears spent slot 256 on Jamari Lyons, a name the board had a full 87 spots lower. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That Igbinosun pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a load in the middle. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They did well to land Jacob Rodriguez in pick 57, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Michael Taaffe in No. 60, more than the board wanted. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Fair-plus on Connor Lew, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Davison Igbinosun at pick No. 108 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Dametrious Crownover at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Parker Brailsford at No. 129 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Travis Burke in pick No. 170 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Fa'alili Fa'amoe at Round 7, Pick 23 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Nothing to complain about; Robert Spears-Jennings went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
By-the-book stuff, Eli Heidenreich at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value said wait; Jamari Lyons in pick 256 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dominic Zvada this early at the 257th overall pick. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
