The war room fell hard for Cooper Mays, and it showed at pick 240: 67 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Stout value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Colston Loveland at the 38th pick is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Elic Ayomanor slid further than he should have, and pick 69 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Devin Neal in Round 3, Pick 26 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in pick No. 100: Denzel Burke for less than the market said. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Danny Stutsman at No. 105 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; Upton Stout at the 219th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had Hayden Conner higher than slot 222, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cooper Mays well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
