Thirty-one other rooms let Nick Emmanwori slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at pick 38. Highway robbery. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th overall pick they get a security blanket over the middle at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
You do not let a safety like Nick Emmanwori reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Matthew Golden in slot 45 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing TreVeyon Henderson in pick 69. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Omarr Norman-Lott in the 77th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 105 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jeffrey Bassa at Round 5, Pick 6 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jacob Parrish. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Torricelli Simpkins III at slot 240 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
