The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The cost of the Laube reach is exactly the players who went right after him. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Caleb Williams at par in Round 1, Pick 2, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy little value on Graham Barton in the 36th overall pick, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had cheaper options than Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick 40, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Payton Wilson at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at the 100th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dylan Laube at pick No. 102 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Ben Sinnott at slot 141, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Roger Rosengarten in No. 181 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
