They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They banked enough surplus on Clark to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Tyler Nubin went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Worthy in the 40th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Fair-plus on Jonathon Brooks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They did well to land Zak Zinter in Round 3, Pick 37, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Blake Fisher in No. 102 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good price on Jaheim Bell in slot 141, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Michael Barrett at the 181st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
De'Corian Clark in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
