When a board-topper like Denzel Burke slides to the Round 5 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 8 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Benjamin Morrison in the 38th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Colston Loveland at Round 3, Pick 5 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Jalen Royals higher than the 77th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ozzy Trapilo at pick No. 105. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Denzel Burke still on the board at pick 145. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Somehow Ty Robinson was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled DJ Giddens all the way to No. 222, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Upton Stout at slot 240 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
