Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Elijah Sarratt got past him. The Giants do not have to explain a thing at pick 105. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will answer for taking linebacker early while safety, edge rusher and other spots went begging. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
The Mack Hollins deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 31 on Sonny Styles with safety, edge rusher and other spots unsolved.
Fair-plus on Peter Woods, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 105 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Dametrious Crownover at Round 5, Pick 5 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A slide stopped in No. 186, with Aamil Wagner worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Febechi Nwaiwu slipping to slot 192 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Caleb Douglas in the 193rd pick, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
