Thirty-one other rooms let Woody Marks slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at slot 222. Highway robbery. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had Colston Loveland higher than slot 38, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Jonah Savaiinaea went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 13. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Donovan Jackson in pick 77; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Sebastian Castro slipping to No. 105 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Savion Williams at the 108th overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Jacob Parrish all the way to pick No. 145, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Jaylen Reed in the 219th pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Woody Marks in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A slide stopped in slot 229, with Trevor Etienne worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Teddye Buchanan at the 234th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Theo Wease Jr. in pick No. 240 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
