Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Kalen King got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at the 244th overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
They went early on T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Javon Bullard still on the board at the 87th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Steal is underselling it; Josh Newton at slot 174 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Jaylan Ford went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 41. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Emani Bailey in pick No. 233 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kalen King at the 244th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
