The Eagles looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Michael Barrett at No. 210 regardless, 25 picks early.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Nubin falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Nubin at the Round 2 slot is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Jeremiah Trotter Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 53. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A straight-up fair deal on James Williams at pick No. 120, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Dwight McGlothern at slot 161 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trente Jones this early at pick 171. It fills a real need, too.
AJ Barner in the 172nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Michael Barrett at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
