The board owed the Bears one, and it paid up: Josh Cameron, the No. 187 name on the board, sitting there at the 210th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Kelly has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th overall pick they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Christen Miller in pick 57, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A.J. Haulcy at the 60th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Sam Hecht at slot 89 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
A reach for J.C. Davis in No. 129; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Josh Cameron in pick No. 210 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jack Kelly at the Round 7 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They let Miles Kitselman come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 25. It adds depth where they could use a little.
