The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Slaughter: B.

Thirty-one other rooms let Jake Slaughter slide, and the Bears were the ones holding the card at pick 89. Highway robbery.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Kenyon Sadiq · TE · rank 17
In the 25th overall pick they get a mismatch in the passing game, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · CJ Allen · LB · rank 32
Circle this one: CJ Allen at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Lee Hunter · DT · rank 49
A tidy bit of business in slot 60, where Lee Hunter graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 58
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 89 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Malik Muhammad · CB · rank 102
Taking Malik Muhammad in Round 4, Pick 29 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Thaddeus Dixon · CB · rank 229
A slide stopped in pick 239, with Thaddeus Dixon worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.25 · Pick 241 · Tyren Montgomery · WR · rank 224
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyren Montgomery at No. 241. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
