Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers kept it disciplined and banked a B.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jo'Quavious Marks, 37 picks early at the 153rd pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Simpson.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 10
In the 12th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 38
By-the-book stuff, Troy Franklin at pick No. 38 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 47
They paid sticker price for Chris Braswell in Round 2, Pick 12, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 91
They jumped the gun on Zach Frazier, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Luke Lachey · TE · rank 106
Luke Lachey at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.16 · Pick 116 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 131
A reach on Mohamed Kamara in No. 116; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.7 · Pick 143 · Theo Wease · WR · rank 133
Theo Wease in the 143rd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.17 · Pick 153 · Jo'Quavious Marks · RB · rank 190
Jo'Quavious Marks at No. 153 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.9 · Pick 184 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 169
A quiet steal in the 184th overall pick: Jaylin Simpson for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.7 · Pick 227 · Marques Cox · OT · rank 220
Marques Cox at Round 7, Pick 7 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Bryce Foster · C · rank 227
Good price on Bryce Foster in pick 233, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.34 · Pick 254 · Gabe Hall · DL · rank 287
A real head-scratcher, Gabe Hall in slot 254 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
