Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Mike Sainristil, the No. 81 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 124. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Tyler Nubin still on the board at slot 56. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Somehow Patrick Paul was still sitting there in pick 89, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Mike Sainristil at No. 124 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 2 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a linebacker like Ty'Ron Hopper reach pick No. 174 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
