You could see the war room lean forward. Troy Franklin at the Round 3 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Gillotte pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nice patience on Terrion Arnold, who had no business lasting to pick 38. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Troy Franklin at No. 70 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for AJ Barner in slot 106; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on Ashton Gillotte in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tre Harris at the 184th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Darius Muasau slid further than he should have, and Round 7, Pick 7 is lovely value for the linebacker. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
J.J. Weaver in pick No. 228 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
