Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Commanders spent the Round 7 slot on Bryce Foster, a name the board had a full 39 spots lower. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
McNeil-Warren at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Jeremiyah Love in Round 1, Pick 7 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A safety of that caliber at No. 71 is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kaleb Elarms-Orr well ahead of where he belonged. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took Josh Cameron at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Jadon Canady at slot 209, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Bryce Foster this early at pick No. 223. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
