If confidence were a draft strategy, the Commanders would have aced it. Kaleb Elarms-Orr at the 147th overall pick is 36 spots clear of where he belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Cameron falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Carnell Tate at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Kamari Ramsey in pick No. 71; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They reached a country mile for Kaleb Elarms-Orr at the 147th pick, and the board is aghast. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A big swing on Pat Coogan at slot 187, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on Jadon Canady in pick 209, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Josh Cameron at the 223rd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
