Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Williams. The cost of the Gore Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
Adonai Mitchell at the 34th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Jordan Morgan all the way to the 68th pick, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zak Zinter. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They will replay Cam Hart at No. 137 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They took Tip Reiman at par in slot 180, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value said wait; Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Isaiah Williams at pick 231 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
