The Bears spent real capital to be 54 picks early on Kaleb Elarms-Orr, and the board is going to hold them to it. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. They banked enough surplus on McNeil-Warren to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Chris Johnson is a better player than the 47th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Emmanuel McNeil-Warren higher than pick No. 57, and the safety fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Dani Dennis-Sutton in No. 60 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Domonique Orange in slot 89. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Logan Jones in the 113th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kaleb Elarms-Orr in the Round 4 slot, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 239 with a little surplus value in Miles Kitselman. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Eli Heidenreich at slot 241 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
