There is conviction, and then there is this. The Bears took Marvin Jones Jr. a full 97 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Trotter falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Blake Miller at pick No. 57. The roster fit checks out.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 60 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Jake Slaughter in Round 3, Pick 25 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Josiah Trotter at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Marvin Jones Jr. at the 239th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Dominic Zvada at No. 241 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
