The Bears treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 239 on Marvin Jones Jr. a full 99 spots early. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Hill Jr. pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Their trades came out a wash either way.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get the heartbeat of the defense at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Caleb Banks in pick 57, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Anthony Hill Jr. in the 62nd pick, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Mike Washington Jr. slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 25 is lovely value for the running back. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Sam Hecht in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah World at No. 147, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
They reached into another round for Robert Spears-Jennings, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They talked themselves into Marvin Jones Jr. at pick No. 239, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nolan Rucci in slot 241 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid up for Logan Taylor at Round 7, Pick 41 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
