Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jamari Lyons at Round 7, Pick 25 is 103 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Jacob Rodriguez in slot 57 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A.J. Haulcy in pick No. 60 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A straight-up fair deal on Parker Brailsford at the 133rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy little value on Louis Moore in the Round 5 slot, a step better than break-even. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They paid sticker price for Travis Burke in pick 174, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Marvin Jones Jr. in the 239th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached a country mile for Jamari Lyons at the 241st pick, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
