Thirty-one other rooms let Cornelius Johnson slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at the Round 6 slot. Highway robbery.
If Jefferson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
T.J. Tampa at No. 56 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Payton Wilson in slot 63 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at the 87th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Mohamed Kamara at pick 130 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Jefferson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Walter Rouse at Round 5, Pick 38 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Cornelius Johnson at the 216th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kalen DeLoach in Round 7, Pick 24 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
