There is conviction, and then there is this. The Bears took Dominic Zvada a full 60 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Rodriguez value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 9 they get a featured back at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nothing to complain about; Dillon Thieneman went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 25, where Jacob Rodriguez graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Parker Brailsford in the 129th pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Zuhn III at pick 239 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached into another round for Dominic Zvada, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
