Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Michael Penix Jr. is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Watson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a seam-stretching tight end at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Fair-plus on Graham Barton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Mike Sainristil in pick No. 87 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyrice Knight in No. 124. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Davis at slot 186, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
De'Corian Clark at the 212th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and Blake Watson was the payoff at the 242nd overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Mark Perry at pick 245 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
