You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Jawhar Jordan at the Round 7 slot, roughly 46 spots before his name belonged. Put together, it is a D.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Flournoy at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 23rd overall pick they get a blindside protector, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In slot 24 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Javon Baker went about where he belonged in pick 87. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, JD Bertrand at the 216th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jawhar Jordan in the 233rd pick, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Ryan Flournoy at slot 244 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
