Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. That Watson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 24th pick they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in pick 56, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Josh Newton in Round 3, Pick 27 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jamari Thrash is a better player than No. 105 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and Tyrice Knight was the payoff at pick No. 125. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Eric Watts in slot 188 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing De'Corian Clark in slot 213. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on Blake Watson in Round 7, Pick 22, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
