You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Frank Gore Jr. at No. 231, roughly 37 spots before his name belonged. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Whatever J.J. McCarthy becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The McCormick pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
