Thirty-one other rooms let Duce Chestnut slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at pick 251. Highway robbery. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If Ogunbiyi pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 30 they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board fumbled T.J. Tampa all the way to slot 62, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Braelon Allen at Round 3, Pick 30, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach for Isaiah Adams in the 136th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Ty'Ron Hopper at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Aki Ogunbiyi a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Joe Milton III is a better player than No. 212 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Duce Chestnut at the 251st pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
