Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Thor Griffith at slot 209 is 168 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a rangy last line of defense. More want than need.
Jalen Milroe at pick 44 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, TreVeyon Henderson in the 77th overall pick, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach on Jayden Higgins in Round 4, Pick 12; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jihaad Campbell at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Blake Miller here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A conviction pick on Davison Igbinosun at the 170th pick that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Jared Ivey at slot 172, and the board did not agree. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A big swing on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at No. 188, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Thor Griffith this early at pick 209. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
