Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Cobee Bryant, the No. 175 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 211. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
If Jackson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge. More want than need.
Circle this one: Kenneth Grant at slot 44 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Quinshon Judkins at No. 76. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Savion Williams in pick 94; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kobe King at the 150th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Jaylen Reed went about where he belonged in pick No. 174. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Cam Jackson in the 190th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Cobee Bryant in Round 6, Pick 33 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Moliki Matavao in No. 249 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
